International Women’s Day Observed at Pakistan Study Centre

A group discussion was arranged at Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Female staff and students participated in the discussion. The participants highlighted various problems faced by the women.

Wrapping up the discussion, Prof Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam Director of the Centre said that various perceptions exist about the status of women in Pakistan. The West and its allies paint a very bleak picture of women in Pakistan and generalize it. On the other hand, some other quarters think that women in Pakistan are enjoying all their rights. The factual position is that we haven’t given religious and constitutional rights to our women so far. On International Women’s Day we should renew our  pledge to extend all those rights to women which are guaranteed by Islam and law in Pakistan.
